Tulsa Trivia!
I grew up listening to oldies music with my Dad. I soon wanted to begin with a fifties style and began combing my hair like a fifties James Dean type. Listening to all of the fifties rock 'n' roll, Elvis stood out the most. Once I began listening to his songs I became infatuated with him. The charisma, the look, the sound, no one else was like him. While growing up I started looking like Elvis more and more, people were calling me Elvis, and with a little more work on my hairstyle I had the look down. Soon I began to learn more about Elvis, reading anything I could get my hands on, listening to every song I could and I realized how much of an impact he made on the world. Going through school I was always more mature than my classmates and most of them just didn't understand. I actually began taking on the classic look around fifth grade and it's evolved into my look today. I was always different than my peers, more mature, more confident, more cool. Never once since I started did I say I'm sick of this or is it worth it; I always kept up my strong self-confidence. The self-confidence came with karate which I started along with my instrumental music classes about the same time. Once I found out that Elvis was a down to Earth, well-mannered, shy person, I idolized him. Elvis and I were actually more alike than I ever realized. Just learning about him made me want to let everybody know who this man was that didn't already know. I wanted to do a tribute to Elvis to commerate his life and how great of a role model that he was. I would describe my everyday style as that of a young Elvis. I always wear dress pants and button-up shirts and I comb my hair similar to Elvis' everyday. It is my style. Now, I'm a black belt in a korean form of karate called Tang Soo Do and teach weekly. I love doing tribute shows to Elvis. I meet so many great people. I love sharing his life with the world through my resemblence and voice. The bottom line is I am, first and foremost, a fan of Elvis Presley. I just love the guy.
The Most Frequently asked question...Where does the "Tulsa" come from?
Actually, Fred Wolfe gave me the nickname because in the 1960 movie, GI Blues, Elvis' character was named Tulsa McLean and I am a McLean, so it seemed natural!
Thank you!
I'd just like to thank everybody that has supported me and helped me throughout the years; to those of you that come out to my shows, those that book me for my shows, to those that help me with the shows; to those who give me guidance; and to everyone else, you guys are the best! I am so very happy that I have made so many good friends through Elvis' fans. If nothing else, an Elvis Tribute Artist is there to do one thing and that is to keep the integrity and the great presence of Elvis alive. Thank you to all the ETA's and every single one of Elvis' fans that help me along with this daily task. I appreciate it all very much!
